1,4-Butanediol

Butanediol is a chemical compound derived from butane in which one hydrogen atom from each of the methyl groups is substituted by a hydroxy group. This substance is a colorless, water-miscible, and viscous liquid at room temperature, with a melting point of 16°C and a high boiling point of 230°C. Its primary use is in the production of other organic chemicals, especially the solvent oxolane, also known as tetrahydrofuran (THF).
