Tartaric Acid
This is a naturally occurring white crystalline organic acid found in numerous fruits, notably grapes, but also in bananas, tamarinds, and citrus fruits. Its salt, known as potassium bitartrate or commonly referred to as cream of tartar, forms naturally during the winemaking process. The acid itself is used as an antioxidant (E334) and to provide its distinctive sour flavor when added to foods.
